Most events have an opening act before the main attraction enters.

That’s what Marble Falls Youth Football and Cheer provided when the players and coaches participated in skills stations at 11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, for one hour before the Marble Falls High School football program took over.

The 100 youngsters were part of the festivities of the first Midnight Madness event hosted by the high school football program.

MFYFC president Josh Henderson called the turnout of players and their families “everything” to where the sport is and how the community feels.

“This is the growth getting there,” he said. “It’s getting the coaches together, getting the kids together with the high school kids. It’s more than having a good time with each other.”

MFYFC players participated in running, passing and kicking drills at Mustang Stadium after spending two weeks practicing for the 2024 season.

“Any extra hour and minute working strengthens the kids and strengthens us as coaches,” Henderson said.

He noted the association, which has 140 players in Kindergarten-sixth grade, has a mix of returners and newcomers of all all ages, calling it another great sign.

“A lot of returners and a lot of newcomers looking forward to another year,” he said. “The numbers say everything. It means we’re doing something right.”

The association has two junior varsity teams with 18 players on each, while the freshman squad, which has the youngest players and plays eight-man football, has 14.

The 2024 season opens Sept. 7. The association, which plays in Hill Country Youth Football, was waiting for the league to release schedules.
